Our Activities
Dear patron,
Retinopathy of prematurity (RoP) is a potentially blinding condition that occurs in premature newborns i.e. babies born before 37th week of pregnancy. This occurs due to abnormal growth of blood vessels in the retina of the eye in these premature kids.
We at Aditya Jyot Group of Institutions, strive every day to change the statistics of RoP related blindness, by ensuring that all preterm infants get screened for RoP on time. However, this is a daunting task, as the number of such infants are many, and it is difficult to get a retina specialist to screen every single one of them.
Hence, there is a need for a smart and effective way to screen such babies on time. We follow Make in India, Make for India - and are using the "3nethra Neo" retinal camera by Forus Health for screening premature babies to rule out RoP. However, this technology can be put to greater use - and we have someone to tell us how!
Kamala Sundaram Foundation for Twinkling Little Eyes is proud to announce the 4th “Aditya Jyot Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Public Endowment Oration Award” to Dr. Michael F. Chiang. A practicing ophthalmologist, Dr. Chiang is currently the Knowles Professor of Ophthalmology & Medical Informatics and Clinical Epidemiology at Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU), Portland, and is associate director of the OHSU Casey Eye Institute. He is expected to begin his new role as the NEI director in late 2020.
NEI conducts and supports research and training into blinding eye diseases, visual disorders, mechanisms of visual function, preservation of sight and the special health problems and requirements of the visually impaired.
Dr. Chiang will be delivering the Aditya Jyot Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Public Endowment Oration this year on “How artificial intelligence is changing the future of retinopathy of prematurity care.” We are very happy to be bestowing the honour to him this year, for his work in the screening and prevention of RoP.
We would like to invite you to be a participant in this event, and tune into the virtual show on the many streaming platforms - the links to which have been provided in this invitation itself, so that as a citizen of this country, you will become empowered with the knowledge of this disease and how to prevent it, by timely action.
