AJFTLE is running charitable eye clinics in Dharavi (Supported by RBL bank) and Kandivali (Supported by AGS).
Advance Vitreo Retinal Centre, Mulund
This centre is well equipped for diagnosis and treatment of all kind of retinal disorders. This centre is supported by Mahatme hospital.
Municipal Dispensary Diabetic Retinopathy Screening
We have also partnered with the BMC in its diabetic screening program in its 55 diabetic health centers. It is an ongoing activity and will be continued on as required basis.
Eye Screening Camps
We are regularly conducting general eye screening, diabetes and diabetic retinopathy screening and school screening camps in slums of Mumbai to provide free treatment for underprivileged. Every year, we are screening approximately 8000 children and 20,000 general populations for visual ailments.
Aditya Jyot Diabetic Retinopathy Urban Mumbai Slums Study (AJ - DRUMSS)
In association with the World Diabetes Foundation, AJFTLE have embarked upon a mobile diabetic retinopathy screening program in Mumbai slums, providing free diagnostic tests and laser treatment.
In this project, we are conducting a door to door survey of slum households to identify those with vision related problems, screen the subjects for diabetes and evaluate them for diabetic retinopathy. They are then given preliminary treatment free of cost.This is a 5-year project which began in 2011. Record 1 lakh households have been covered in door-to-door screening in the slums of Dharavi, Govandi and Dahisar. Our health workers educated and screened families in these slums and got those in need of further care to our centre in Dharavi.
This activity was done with the support of the Jamshetji Tata Trust.
Door-to-door screening for Pediatric Eye Anomalies, Refractive Errors and Traumatic Lesions study (PEARLS)
The Bharat Ratna Late Shri APJ Abdul Kalam PEARLS project was launched on 28th July 2015 in fond remembrance of the man who gave name to this foundation. This study is supported by Late Smt. Santhi Krishnan and Shri K. Krishnan. Through this project, we have screened more than 3000 children from urban slums of Mumbai. We are working towards early detection of vision disorders in slum children and strive to prevent avoidable blindness. The aim is to study the demographic profile of children with refractive errors and related visual impairment. We will be studying the children of age group 3-15 years in an urban slum population in Mumbai, India. We have also planned intervention and treatment for the children having refractive errors and other eye ailments.
Driver’s camps
Visual Acuity, visual Field, contrast sensitivity, eye movements and other parameters are vital in assessing visual function in drivers. The need for work on this issue stems from society’s need to preserve public safety on roadways. Therefore, periodic screening of truck driver vision needs to be ensured. The quality of vision depends on good visual acuity, normal color vision, and absence of night blindness. Our Foundation in association with Sight savers International carried out several screening camps targeted at truck drivers.
Mobile Creche
The aim is to study and examine ocular ailments among the underprivileged migrant children of Mumbai’s mobile crèches.
